Book Review #11 ~ “Blue Sisters” by Coco Mellors
I picked up “Blue Sisters” not knowing that the author also wrote “Cleopatra and Frankenstein,” which I DNFed. Honestly, I’m glad I didn’t know because I might not have read it if I did know. “Blue Sisters” follows Avery, Bonnie, and Lucky a year after their sister Nicky passed away. The book has chapters following each of their POVs as they navigate grief, their private lives, and reconnecting with their sisters.
This book was definitely character driven and seemed to not really have a plot at times, but I didn’t mind it because I learned to love all three sisters. All three were fleshed out characters and were easily distinguishable, which seems uncommon in other literary books similar to “Blue Sisters.” I do think I enjoyed this book more than I thought because I read it on audiobook. This is because the book has really long chapters and, again, feels like a character study, so being able to read this while doing other tasks made this book way more enjoyable. Even though the book could feel boring, Mellors’ writing is so good and I wish I could underline whole paragraphs.
I rated this book 4/5 stars and would recommend this book to people who enjoy literary fiction and classics. This is my 78th book of 2025. See you soon xx Autumn
